Plus sized models

I read on buzz feed about H and M's new plus sized model. She is NOT in any way shape or form plus sized. Anyone else agree that plus sized models look like regular healthy and fit women?

I don't know why but it irked me.

I would most certainly be considered a plus sized model if those are the standards.

Re: Plus sized models

  • I havent seen this but I totally disagree with what they consider plus sized models.  I have a cousin who is tall and gorgeous and wanted to be a model, they told her she'd have to be a plus sized one.  It's so ridiculous she's not a very big girl.  I mean it's like a size 10 or 12 is a plus size to these people.  WTH?

  • It's insane, these women are thin. They aren't guant and scary skinny so that is considered plus sized. The story tried to send a message that h and m is blazing a trail for full figured or overweight women and ooohhh they are so progressive! Fail. That chick's body would be envied by any woman.
  • She's really beautiful and not overweight at all.  I watched a news segment that said she's a size 12/14 which I think is the min size for plus-sized models.  Considering the average size for a "regular" model is 2/4 I think most American women would fit more in the plus category.  I wish they'd have more short models.  Most women are not 6' tall!
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • There is more than one they are claiming as plus size right? The one I saw in most news articles (in the bathing suit) does not look plus size to me. But I don't consider anything size 14 and under plus size. There was another of their models in shorts/top that does look to be more what I would expect a low end plus size model to look like maybe a 16/18.

I think the label is dumb anyway. Why can't they just be models.

  • They are gorgeous healthy and slender looking. There is no arm fat, double chins, or muffin tops. Granted all of that can be air brushed, I just don't like the term plus sized. It probably makes some women and younger girls feel like they need to be smaller because that woman represents the body of any healthy looking woman.

Agreed. I don't mind the term "plus sized model," though "average sized" would be more accurate.
