I just delivered 2w ago as a gestational surrogate and DH and my IP's (intended parents) were all allowed in. It was up to my OB and the anesthesiologist, they both said they didn't care so everyone was in there (DH was at my head, IP's were back by the bassinet so it wasn't too crowded in any one spot).
ETA: A friend of mine is a L&D nurse at another hospital, she said they almost always allow 2 in, will allow 3 in some circumstances.

I have personally never heard of more than 1 person. It's a major surgery so I'm actually kinda surprised other hospitals allow that. I would call your hospital.
This. Even though this is a joyous occasion and you want others in there with you, it is still major surgery in a sterile environment. Also, too many people in there would probably be a distraction to the doctors and nurses.
I'm a birth photographer and have been the 2 in the OR many times. Around here it just depends on the hospital and the anesthesiologist for your surgery.
I believe it all depends on the hospital. With all three of mine, only one person was allowed and DH could not be in there until they were done with the epidural or spinal tap.

My hospital allows 2. My husband went in with me, and my best friend waited right outside the surgery doors in case he fell out or got sick. Loved knowing she was there for backup!!! I think your hospital has rules on this. Check it out.
Only 1 at my hospital. I was devastated that my baby's father was the only one allowed. I wanted my mom. He has not been involved during my pregnancy or after her birth but was there for the section.

The one person is your decision. If their is an issue, a nurse will always run interference for you. I'm sorry you weren't able to have your mom there.
My mom and husband were allowed in, but not exactly at the same time. DD was a preemie and once she was out DH went to the NICU with her and my mom was allowed back with me.
