Hello all,
I don't think I've posted on this particular board before, but I've been planning a completely natural birth and have been taking Lamaze classes to prepare. Baby, however, has other plans, and is breech. My OB practice is very supportive of natural birth (their goal is basically a home birth in a hospital) and has scheduled me for an external version on Monday (37w1d). I've done some reading, but would like to hear some anecdotes as well.
I'm low-risk, young, my doctor described me as "thin" which I haven't heard for many months and had a good laugh about, and am a generally good candidate for the version. I've looked at spinning babies, and I'm doing some of the exercises to try and convince this baby to flip on his own.
Re: External Version. Tell me about yours.
Im going to echo this advice. Not sure where you are but I'm sure the interwebz can point you to a Webster chiro. Good luck!

I was in the same situation a couple weeks ago @ 37w3d. My midwives discovered LO was breech and since I am trying to avoid a csection at all costs, I was freaking out! They scheduled me for a version a couple days later. In between time, I tried the webster technique, moxibustion and a bunch of the spinning babies moves. I realize that these techniques can take more than one attempt to work but I didnt have the time. When I went in for my version, baby was still breech. Doc said the same to me, that I was a good candidate and that there was a 60% success rate. And... it worked! It was pretty uncomfortable but only lasted about a minute. LO is still head down and we are back on track for the natural birth I was hoping for.
Good luck to you! I hope baby turns easily for you!
No experience with a version.
But, the Webster technique did get my baby to flip transverse to vertex. She ended up flipping to frank breech the day before I went into labor, but I didn't know (and no one caught it before my midwife when I was 7 cm dilated) and I ended up having a vaginal breech birth.
There was a regular poster here - I can't for the life of me remember her name right now, but will add if I can find it - who had a successful version a few months ago.

Ditto moxibustion and acupuncture. I had a version done at 39w when Dd flipped breech. It was pretty intense. We tried twice since the first attempt was a failure. I had bruising on my belly afterwards! I bound my belly after all day/all night to keep her from flipping back up. It seemed to work bc she was still head down at 41w3d when I finally delivered her at home

I tried everything (spinning babies, chiro for webster tech, hot/cold, music, etc.) from 30 weeks on to get my baby to flip on her own with no success. I had the version done at 37+2 and it was successful! She is still head down today. It was painful, but not unbearable, and very quick. I would guess she was turned in under 90 seconds?
Don't let people scare you about it. It's not invasive and the risks of the ECV are more manageable (in my opinion) than the risks of a c-section. Good luck to you ? I hope it works!
Thanks for all the input!
My ECV went well. Baby's heartrate dropped for a minute afterward, but came back up and was fine for the whole hour that they had me on the monitors. My OB was impressed with how calm I was, and said if I'm like that during labor then everything will go wonderfully! It really wasn't painful at all, just uncomfortable.
I tried everything people mentioned above for weeks and finally had a version done at 36 week- and she flipped in less than 30 seconds and stayed that way until she was born at 41 weeks.
It was painful, but totally worth it. GL
