teeth shifting up and down

about a month ago we were breaking a tooth. we saw the white line of tooth out of the gums, there was a little bit of bleeding, it was coming through. i know baby teeth shift up and down under the gums as they are developing, but is this weird for the tooth to shift up, break gums, and go back down? there is no sign of teeth anymore besides the bulge in the front of his gums, but not near the surface. i was thinking that maybe it was a deposit instead of a tooth that was growing above the tooth, but let me tell you, that was a weirdly tooth shaped deposit.. his ped really had no idea, he was the one to confirm he was cutting before, and we came back for his appointment and there was no tooth!

i have heard that this can happen. My friends son is a year and a half and most of his teeth will break through then disappear again.

Totally normal from what i can tell, my son has done the same thing, and according to my mom so did me and my sister.
