Workno going back?

So I had a pretty good job before the baby but the job required me to work 60 hours a week. It also required a lot of travel, and extra meetings. So unfortunately I have decided that the best thing would to be not to return to the job. Just because I would miss most holidays, no sick days we are single coverage most of the time so sick days are a huge deal, if daycare was closed in the snow then I was stuck because I am required to go in all the time. So now I'm staying home but I'm starting to feel itchy. It just seems like out here daycare costs so much that it isn't worth it to work but I need SOMETHING to do. Also I'm just starting to panic because we have always had extra money and now we will be right where we need to be. Anyone else feel in a similar situation?

Yep! Same here. We had originally decided for me to stay home the first year but I find myself searching the job sites just looking to see what's out there. I want to go back to work but this is my first baby and I struggle with sending him to day care so small but I'm afraid if a great job opportunity came along before that year is up I would highly consider it.

Yeah we decided on at least a year here too. I love the idea of staying home, but I miss the outside world. I don't actually miss working, mostly I miss having conversations with other people.

I'm not sure what field you are in, but are you able to do some part time work from home work in your field? I'm an architect and since I had my DS I'm now a SAHM. But I've been able to take on a couple clients and work from home making my own hours. I am able to take DS with me to meetings/job sites if I need to, and I do most of my work during nap time or after DH comes home. It's nothing near a full-time salary, but it keeps me sane and current in my field and gives a little extra income.

Check out the Facebook group "VAs for Hire". VA = virtual assistant and it's an awesome way to get fun, flexible work and decent income. Can be as simple as administrative work, writing a blog, managing sites, and more.

Are you opposed to working part time? I'm working part time an evening or two a week at the retail job I used to be a manager at, and it's basically our spending money and a way for me to get out of the house and have adult time.

I thought about this. How is this working for you as far as getting proper rest with having to take care of a newborn during the day?

I thought about this. How is this working for you as far as getting proper rest with having to take care of a newborn during the day?

It hasn't been too bad yet, but while my LO won't nap long during the day, she sleeps from 10p to 7a and then will usually nap from 8a to 10 a, so I get plenty of sleep at night.

I was in retail, so there aren't any work at home options. I tried to work with my employer on different options such as closing a couple nights a week but they are in the "all or nothing" boat. I can look at retail again I was just concerned about weekends.
