I have a super colicky one month old that does not sleep. We have tried everything that has been recommended. Formula before bed, we EP. tried gripe water, gas drops, colic tabs, bicycling the legs, sleeping on belly, everything... i'm going on 3 days of about 5 hrs total sleep. DH works 6 days a week at 10 hours a day so I try to only get him up at night if I need to. But this whole no sleep thing if getting to me. Baby started crying and I just started balling as I rocked and burped him.
Does anyone know of any other tricks to get him to sleep or relieve colickyness? I just don't know what to do...
happiest baby on the block techniques. if you haven't seen it, i recommend just watching the video. you can rent it online instead of reading the book since the video will only take 45 minutes to watch. basically it's swaddle then shoosh in their ear, then turn on white noise or rain falling sounds. we just downloaded a baby white noise song on our ipod and use that. its on a continuous loop so you dont have to worry about it going off suddenly and waking them up. then put in a swing or rock them gently or jiggle them. my LO didnt like the swing for some reason so i would just rock him/jiggle him and walk him around the room or up and down the stairs.
if those dont work i use the baby carrier and walk outside the house or walk around the house for a bit until he is asleep then i either just go about my day with him in the carrier while he naps, or i take him out of the carrier gently while he is asleep and then swaddle him and put him down. sometimes he is so asleep from the carrier that i just can lay him down for a nap without swaddle and he stays asleep.
i did notice that now that my LO is 11 weeks his naps are shorter. he used to nap for 2-2 1/2 hours during the day about 3 times a day and now he naps for sometimes only 45 min-1 1/2 tops 4-5 times a day.
Re: vent
This. According to my pedi, babies that are really fussy tend to have reflux.
