Padsicles?

Are any of you mamas making padsicles (with the aloe and witch hazel and all that jazz)? If so... how far in advance are you making them? I don't want to make them too early... but then, I'm not sure if it really matters... any opinions? TIA. :)

From what I've seen yes.... they are just regular menstrual pads (like Always or Kotex) then you add pour on some witch hazel (or tucks pads) and some aloe vera gel, wrap it back up and freeze it. They're supposed to feel really good post-partum on your lady bits, but since I'm a FTM I've obviously never tried them.... they seem easy enough to make though.

Ah!!! I need to make those. Postpartum was a bit.. Lol. These sound heavenly!
  • I've seen these discussed... Wouldn't it be like sitting on a cold rock? It sounds super hard like it wouldn't be comfortable? Or are tucks just if you get hemeroids?
  • I have four in my freezer right now just in case I forget to make them later. I just unwrapped the pad and saturated it with witch hazel and stuck them in a bag in the freezer.  They really are wonderful after the birth.

After I had DS, the nurses gave me a bunch of pads that are cold packs that you twist and pop to activate...they are heavenly!  I'm stocking up this time.

You don't put so much liquid that it's an ice cube... It's dampened with witch hazel and aloe, not soaked. At least that's what I've read, haven't tried it yet.
  • I saw these on Pinterest and have them on my to-do list! I plan to do them about 3 weeks before my due date.

I'll have to do these as i've heard about them. I had a csection the first but plan for vbac this time. So just witch hazel and aloe ? How do these hold up with bleeding? I use always ultrathin overnights will these be sufficient?

The ones I got at the hospital basically were crotch shaped ice cubes.  You wrap them in a washcloth so you don't have ice against your hootenanny. It DOES feel really good on your poor, swollen lady bits.  :)

  • I will for sure be doing these.  Witch hazel, aloe, and lavender essential oils.  I learned about these at the first birth I ever attended and the mom said they are basically essential for post partum recovery.  She said she didn't know about them until her third baby and it made such a huge difference with the third, fourth, and fifth with recovery.

I will probably get the ingredients to make them in a week or two and whip them up and store them in my parents freezer.

You get them at the hospital and they are AWESOME. Seriously. If you have a vaginal birth, the bits are so swollen. It's so soothing. Sitting upright in the bed didn't cause any discomfort with essentially an ice pack between your legs. I still recommend refrigerating tucks pads regardless.

  • I'm going to make them using this tute

I've heard you can put parchment paper or wax paper in between instead of aluminum foil, I guess it's your choice & what you have on hand.

I found this witch hazel on Amazon that has all the ingredients required, I'm figuring I'll just use this & it will be just as good?

I have aloe vera gel on hand anyway, so will probably throw it in there too. I'll probably make up some a few weeks in advance

You can also just wrap the pad back in the wrappers they came in.  That's just to store them safely in freezer until you need them.  That's what mamma did that I know and what I plan to do.

As for that witch hazel, I looked at the ingredients and they are the same as the regualr witch hazel just with lavender and aloe added.  I'd think it would be OK.  I'd still add some more aloe, though.  The texture of the aloe won't be the same in the witch hazel as it will if you use some gel.
