What do I do now?!?

Our LO is 5.5 months old and we have had tremendous success with the Ferber method starting at 4 months. She STTN almost every night with a couple wake ups when she is hungry.
The past 48 hours she has learned to roll from back to belly and tonight she won't go to sleep. She is exhausted and keeps rolling on her belly then waking up very upset.
Do I go in and flip her? I have done twice and she has fallen asleep and flipped back to her belly making herself wake back up
Or do I let her figure it out ?
TIA!

Re: What do I do now?!?

  • Well, DH would offer up some comic relief and suggest duct tape and then CPS would show up rather quickly so you'd better not go with his favorite solution. Sorry, no real advice.

  • I posted the same thing a few days ago.  Our DD has become a champion roller, and every time she does, she also wakes up (and wakes us up).  Last night seemed better - She slept until pretty close to her normal wake up time this morning, though did wake us then by screaming.  Though, that's also her new thing - sort of a whiny scream, so I'm not entirely sure which it was (her being bothered by being on her tummy or just thinking it's fun to scream).

Anyway, the general consensus was that it gets better and not to bother flipping them back because they'll just roll over again.  I can't tell you if it's worked for us yet, but I'm hoping...

  • I would let her cry for 5 minutes and then flip her. And then the next time wait 10 minutes before flipping her. Keep increasing by 5 minute increments until she doesn't need you to come in.

It's worth a try, at least!

  • From what I have researched, it is ok to leave them (on their belly) once they can fully roll from belly to back and back to belly. Otherwise, you are supposed to flip them back over. We are going through this and have just been flipping LO back over. She has learned to sleep on her side now though and doesn't fully flip. We are hoping she learns to completely roll both ways soon.
