15 month vaccinations

Did anyone delay having the MMR administered at 15 month appt? I'm really anxious about this one. He has to get a DTaP and Heppatitus. Those two are the last in the series I think. I hate having him get more than two shots at a time. So I may just delay the MMR so he doesn't have to get three.

  • We are delaying it for a while. Nat doesn't get more than two at a time since allergies run in the family.

I have done the same thing, only two at a time. How long do you expect to wait?

We do an alternative schedule where Nolan only gets one vaccine at a time.  He will get everything, but we simply space them out by 2 weeks.  I had a vaccine reaction as a child so we are doing this just to err on the side of caution. He got the MMR vaccine 2 weeks ago, when he was 16 months (he was born early in January). I was going to delay it until he finished all the other recommended vaccinations, but I got an email from the Virginia Department of Health (I am an RN and I am on their email list) about an increase in measles in our area.  There can be a lot of complications from the measles and I didn't want to risk it.  He was fussy for about a week, but never got a fever or a rash.  The fussiness could have been the vaccine or the fact that he is getting 6 teeth...hard to tell.  He is doing well now :)
  • I staged my nine year old's and delayed some to wait for "clean" vaccines (she is 9, so things were a little different).  The five year old got them all at one time, no reactions.

DS gets them all at once - and he has had fevers with the vaccs.  The ped said that fever is a pretty safe reaction and there is no need to delay them or space them.

  • Nope. We're doing everything as recommended and there were never any issues. One thing I always insist on is if there are 2 or more to be given at a time, I ask for 2 nurses to give them at the same time (on in each leg). That way she only cries once and it's all done.
