Red Spotting after Heartbeat

Hi, I know there's a lot of posts about spotting.. I've had pretty much all colors of spotting ever since bfp. I saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks, where they also saw no reason for me to be spotting. I'm currently just over 9 weeks, and started bright red spotting. I'm so nervous. The nurse called back and said really all.she could do is give me the option to go into the er if I was that alarmed, or I could wait it out a bit. I guess I'm wondering if any of you have had bright red spotting after seeing heartbeat, and had everything be fine?

Re: Red Spotting after Heartbeat

  • Yes - three times unfortunately.  The first two happened around 7 weeks after the heartbeat.  Then light bleeding at 11 weeks.  It can be really upsetting and I'm sorry that you're going through it.  Each time I called the doctor they told me that I was miscarrying and had me come in for an emergency ultrasound.  Of course that put me in a panic and it's made me very nervous about carrying this child.  Each time everything turned out okay.  They say that sometimes women bleed and there's no way to pinpoint why.  You may be in that camp unfortunately.  Hang in there and do what's right for you.  If you want to be sure go in and see the doctor.

  • I had red bleeding at about 10 weeks 4 days.  I hadn't seen the heartbeat before the bleed, but I have seen it twice since and everything appears to be ok.  The red spotting lasted a few days then turned brown and it is just clearing up.  Try taking it easy; hopefully everything is fine.

I just re-read this and realized it kind of sounds like I said to not go to the ER.  Like pp said, do what's right for you.

  • Thank you guys, it's very nerve wracking, but I'm trying to rest and stay positive. It hasn't happened since the last time I used the bathroom, so I'm waiting it out for a bit.

  • I a 14 weeks and have had spotting to even bleeding episodes.  Just had an ultrasound and the baby is healthy.  My advice is to always call when you are spotting so that your doc can keep and eye on your levels and the baby.  They would rather have you call and keep them posted then you being upset and stressing.
  • I had heavy bright red bleeding with huge clots at 6 weeks the same day I saw the heartbeat for the first time. The same day the u/s tech told me she didn't see any SCH or anything...well, turns out there was a small one, it bleed like crazy and then I was good. I've spotted brown a little more over the next couple of weeks, but so far the baby is a-ok and great, I've had an u/s every week since then since I was seeing my RE.
  • Thanks you guys, you've all made me feel a lot better!! My first pregnancy I didn't have any spotting, and this one it's been pretty often and frustrating. But thank you!
