36 weekers, sleep

DS#2 was born at 36w2d - no complications, doing great.  He gained 2lbs by his 2 week appointment (almost 8lbs).  He cannot go even 3 hours without eating day or night.  Daytime is usually about 2.5 hours, but nights are sometimes 1.5 hours.  Any other late-term preemies - did you have the same experience?  When did your LO start going longer stretches?

Re: 36 weekers, sleep

  • I am in almost the exact same boat. My little guy was born at 36 weeks 2 days as well, although he spent a week in the NICU with some breathing issues and lost about 7 oz while he was there. He's home now and eating every three hours during the day and more often at night. He's gained back the 7 oz in 5 days. Saw the doctor today and he said that eating like that he's gonna be just fine. But I am pretty exhausted from the frequent night feedings. I feel like his days and nights are mixed up!

It is not unusual for full-term babies to eat more often than every 3 hrs.

My 35w0d daughter ate ever 45-60minuyrd weeks 1-3 day and night...at 11 weeks she still eats every 2 hours. I don't think it has much to do with being pre-term but rather the fact she is a young baby

  • My LO was born at 36 weeks, she was 5lbs 12oz and didn't spend any time in the nicu. At 12 weeks she is a little over 11lbs now.

At 9 weeks she started doing 4 hour stretches at night, just this week she has doing 5 to 6 1/2 stretches over night. She has always been a 2 1/2 to 3 hour stretch eater during the day.
