I am in desperate need of a new camera.

What do you recommend? Any I should stay away from?

Not entirely sure. I haven't discussed in detail with DH. I would like a nice one for vacations and birthdays, holidays, etc. And a little one to have in the diaper bag or purse.

I recently got a Canon Rebel t3i.  Initially we were going to get the Canon SX40 since it was more in our price range, but we ended up getting a good deal on a refurbished t3i, so we went with that one.  I'm still learning how to properly use all the settings, but so far I love it.
