Bleeding

I'll just start by saying I have zero experience with "bloody show" and all that. With Lucy, all my bits and discharge looked normal until I was admitted.

Over the past week, I have had a lot more discharge and on Saturday it seemed watery enough that H took me to L and D. Test was negative for amniotic fluid and the discharge let up. Fast forward to now: I decided to administer my first vaginal dose of EPO and before I could even start putting it in I noticed I was VERY wet. Pulled my hand up and it is covered in bright red blood. Wiped and more blood with a bit of CM. Is this bloody show or should I be concerned?

Grr...I feel like a dummy for being so confused. So, do I wait for ctrx to start or call now or get off the internet and get some sleep because early labor is upon me? Babyphychic? Anyone?

Signed,

Blood has turned me into a worried loon.

Re: Bleeding

  • I was induced with my son so I never went into labor on my own but last week at my appointment my ob said to go to labor and delivery if I get any bleeding that I need a pad for. They said spotting is ok but more than that requires a check up.

  • I have no experience either since my first pregnancy I didn't have any of the normal stuff either. I'd call your OB office. Do they have a 24 hour line?

  • I never had bloody show, but I would probably put a call in to your OB and lie down and relax and see what happens.

  • I'd say call your OB
  • Okay, I'm calling. I know that's the best advice, I just feel silly if it's bloody show. Derp derp.

    Thanks ladies. I'll update.

    Tabs! OMG.

I'd be calling my OB for guidance if there was bright red blood. Please call and please don't feel like a dummy. Go ahead and ask them what you asked us; whether you should stay home and wait it out or come in to be checked. And if you do go in to get checked and they say it's prelabor and you and W are safe for now and blah blah, go home and rest!

Keep me updated. I'm up all odd hours of the night so you can text me. Hugs!

  • I'm glad you decided to call! I never experienced a bloody show with DD so I don't know what to expect/not expect but if I had bright red blood I would call for sure, just for peace of mind. I will be watching for your update

  • Whew! Midwife said it is most likely bloody show but to come in if it leaks onto a pad. I'm going to head to bed but I'll be sure to check it out when I get up for my first pee of the night.

Thanks again. I'll update in the morning if anything has changed.

  • My "bloody show" appeared and continued for the 5 days leading up until DD's birth a week ago.  I pretty much had contractions starting at that time that continued up until active labor started, about 4 hours before her birth.  I finally decided to go into the hospital at that time.  I'm really glad I waited since I'm afraid some interventions may have been suggested had I gone in during those 5 days of early labor.

I would relax and just hang out until labor really starts.  It still could be days.  I would not freak out too much about the bloody discharge.  It most likely is your cervix starting to thin and open.  Just be ready:)

Thanks for the info. This was so new to me. I keep expecting this birth to go just like my daughter's; contractions, show up to the hospital in active labor, have the baby! But he's shaking things up with this prelabor stuff. :]

Good point about the interventions. Lucy's birth was med free and I really need to chill out and trust that I can do this again. I guess my biggest fear is not making it to the hospital because my first labor was so fast and it has me being a bit too on edge about early labor symptoms.

Thanks for asking. I am crampy but nothing that screams labor contractions. No bleeding overnight so no worries there. :]

I'm just getting caught up on all this.  I'm glad you didn't have any bleeding overnight.  Most definitely thinking of you, mama :)

  • The day before I had Evelyn I had some bleeding like you described. I was concerned, but the OB said it was just from my internal exam.

Well ... he was wrong, lol. It was definitely bloody show. I started having contractions and had Evelyn the next day.

  • My labor with dd starting with bleeding almost as much as a period. The cramps and labor pains started soon after. I was 3 cm by the time I got to the hospital. I hope this is it, GL!
