Contractions only at night?

Yes, I'm in the overdue club and going out of my mind! Not just from anxiety over whats to come, but from boredom as well.

The only times I've ever had contractions are at night. I have not had BH this entire pregnancy, now I have this weird stuff going on. Anytime between 9:00pm and midnight I'll get regular and increasingly painful contractions that start out feeling like period cramps. Then, bamb! They are gone without a trace.

I wanted to see if this was the case for anyone else and why are they only at night?

False labor sucks and it just gets my hopes up. I almost wish nothing would be happening!

Re: Contractions only at night?

  • I just saw a similar post to this, bad bumpie! But still....does anyone know why these false labor episodes seem to happen at night? Not for everyone I know, but a lot!

  • I had this for two weeks about a week before I went into labour....don't know if it meant anything.

  • I had this happen for a week prior to labor. Prodominal labor is what we thought it was-it made it really hard to determine if I needed to go to the hospital or not. They would be increasingly more intense and painful, timeable and consistent.

Good luck to you momma, hope for real labor for you soon!

  • Oxytocin and melatonin are related. Melatonin is the chemical that makes you sleep/ relaxed. When that's released, so is oxytocin. Hence why most women go into labor at night; when their melatonin and oxytocin are at their peak.

  • Im going through the same thing. It started when i was 37 weeks along and i get contractions every night. The worst was for 14 hours at 20 minutes apart and then again for 6 hours at 10 minutrs apart. Other than those two nights its just been lower back pain with menstrual like cramping almost all night that randomly disappears. Prodromal labor is what my midwife said it was. I hope its not to muchlonger  before the real thing comes. It is apparently complety normal but dont be afraid to call because one of these times its going to be real ;)

I actually came on here now because I'm experiencing the same exact thing and have no idea what's going on. I'm 41w1d and haven't really had any painful contractions and I had just gotten used to the idea of baby eviction in 2 days and wham, these low abdominal cramps.
  • This is what happened with me. I thought they were just BH that I happened to notice since I was on the go so much during the day and didn't notice them happening then. Turned out they were the real thing after all.
