Gripe water

This may be a dumb question but what do you give gripe water for? How do you know to give that to LO instead of gas drops?
MF (low motility) - Began stims for IVF#1 7/21/12
ER 8/2/12 - 14 eggs retrieved, 12 mature and ICSI'd, 6 fertilized. ET 8/7 - 2 embies. Beta#1 8/17: 143! Beta#2 8/20: 590! Beta#3 8/22: 1,162! 1st US 9/4: one beautiful little bean with the best sounding HB I've ever heard!

    We would give it for hiccups, or if she was just super fussy and gas drops didn't work. When E was gassy, she would usually scrunch up her belly and you could tell her tummy hurt. If she wasn't doing that and there was nothing else obviously wrong, we would hit the gripe water.

    How old do they have to be before you try either gripe water or gas drops? Mine seems to he having issues but she's only 2.5 wks

    Testing - Me ok, gluten issue? DH - borderline count, low motility
    4/28/11 IUI#1 = BFP!(5/25), EDD 2/2/12 - m/c 5w3d
    7/3, 7/31, 9/25 - IUI#2-4=BFN
    IVF#1 - 1 blast = BFP!! (12/30), EDD 9/9/12, confirmed c/p 4w2d
    FET#1 3/2/12 - 2 blasts =BFP!! EDD 11/18/12, us#1 = twins! Confirmed m/c 5w6d
    4/20-surprise BFP and another c/p 4w2d
    FET#2 7/16/12 - 2 blasts = BFN
    FET#3 8/20/12 - 1 blast - BFP!! Beta #1-2=177, 354
    1st u/s 5w6d, one beautiful little HB :), 2nd u/s 146bpm
    baby girl born 5/10/13

    TTC#2 since 12/17/2014, Cycle 8
    Repeat Testing...FSH=12, AMH=3.8, AFC=28. 
    IUI#5 5/10/15- c/p?
    IVF#2 8/19/15 - cancelled due to cysts
    IVF#2 take two 10/2015 - 5 blasts frozen
    FET#4 12/11/2015 - BFN - 4 blasts remaining
    FET#5 2/18/16 - BFP!!!  Beta1-3, 126, 250, 745!!

    Supposedly you can give gas drops that early. S was having gas issues so we started using them at 3 wks. She loves the taste of them and they do seem to help.

    I haven't seen any age limits on either, but we didn't start the gas drops until 9 or 10 weeks when H got super gassy. We've only done gripe water once and it was around the same time. I've read that there's no real medicine in gas drops so you can't overdose them in a sense. They really help H.

    From what I know of them you can give either at the newborn stage. I never gave either but I've heard they can work. You might also trying bicycling their legs to help with gas.

    Our pediatrician said you cannot "overdose" on gas drops.... you'll just cause some seriously explosive diapers. We used gas drops in nighttime bottles when DD was a newborn very regularly.

    Thanks ladies!! She gets the hiccups a lot... We have an issue with them in our family. I had him really bad during my pg too. Good to know about the gas drops and explosive diapers!!!!

    We used gripe water for hiccups, mainly. We also put gas drops in her bottles for several months. I think we started both around 2 weeks old.

    Successful Cycle: 5/12/11 - 1000mg Metformin + 100mg Clomid(late response) + TI = BFP
