My ds is 5.5 mnths (sorry, no ticker for him. I don't have a lot of time to hang out on here anymore). His sleep is terrible and has been since he was 2 mnths old. He wakes 7-12 times a night and even wakes a couple times during a nap. At around 4 months he was not ready to be unswaddled, but could roll, so we moved him to
the sleepsuit. His sleep was still terrible, but at least we were able
to get him out of the swaddle. Anyway, I just started working with a pediatric sleep nurse to help him sleep better. My sleep nurse says we need to ditch the sleepsuit. So we started the plan she developed for us this weekend, and it is going okay. He is learning to go to sleep on his own. It is a multiphase plan, and we are only on phase 1. The problem is he will go to sleep on his own without the suit but wakes after 30 mins and cannot go back to sleep unless I put him in the suit. I will consult with her on Tuesday to get her thoughts, but I can't stop going over the options in my brain and thought I'd see what your ladies take on this is. I figure my two options are to put him down at the beginning of the night in the sleepsuit and he just learns how to fall asleep on his own in the suit or start the weaning process (I guess by mutilating the suit). I don't know which is better. Will there be a point he just doesn't need it anymore and weaning isn't hard? That's what dd did with the swaddle, but ds is so different.

Re: is it time to wean from magic merlin sleepsuit?
What are the reasons that she explained for why he needs to lose the suit?
It's hard to come up with the best strategy without knowing the reasons behind it.
My almost-5-month-old is still in his suit, but our situations may be different.
We just ditched the suit a few days ago and he is 8+m.
We did some sleep training (modified sleep lady shuffle) first, and now that he can put himself down to sleep and back to sleep, we ditched the suit cold turkey.
I think she just wants to eliminate all sleep crutches/props.
I just spoke with her, and she said to give it another 7-10 days and try again without the sleepsuit. We'll just keep waiting and trying until he's ready. He has learned pretty quickly how to put himself to sleep, which is great.
