help with head control

My LO turned three months this past week and is still quite a bobblehead when sitting upright. He does quite well with head control when on his tummy or when we are holding him against our chests. Any suggestions on exercises to improve head control while sitting? His pedi said at his two month appt that he should "have no trouble" holding his head up at 4 months so I'm starting to get a little nervous. Thanks!

  • Extra tummy time maybe?

  • My DD just turned 4 months old, and she is way better at holding her head up now than at 3 months. She was still very wobbly at 3 months too. We didn't do anything special- I just think that a month can make a huge difference, so I wouldn't get too worried yet.

  • I'm in the same boat - DS is three months old on Tuesday and his head still wobbles when we hold him away from our bodies.  It's a huge improvement from just a week ago, though, so I'm not worried.  Our LOs change so much in a week or a month that they'll get there :)

This.  DD is two weeks away from 4 months and she still wobbles a bit, but is much better than she was a few weeks ago.

  • Practice makes perfect. Try carrying him upright when you walk through the house. Try sitting him in a bumbo if you have one and direct his attention upward with a toy or your voice. The reason he is good with his neck while on his belly is because those are the only muscles he has to focus on. It is a lot harder in sitting positions because they are also working their core muscles to sit up. Don't worry too much head control in the upright position is the last one the conquer.
