Trouble TTC

TI Timing

First round of Clomid, Ovidrel and TI this cycle. I had my CD12 ultrasound and there were a lot of small follies, and one at a 22. My instructions are to trigger and DTD last night, and then DTD again tomorrow. Is this usual? It seems odd to me it wouldn't be today too...

A trigger will cause you to ovulate about 36 hours later. A lot of folks subscribe to the every-other-day method because that has been the standard for a long time, but KatiB mentioned a new study that showed higher sperm counts in men who ejaculated every day for the 7-10 days leading up to ovulation. I'll let her speak to that.

I understand that if you don't have MFI issues, it's fine to do it everyday, but if it were me, I know I'd follow my doc's instructions.

Good luck, and FX that this is your cycle.

It was an Australian study for MFI'ers using IUI - not TI, and not none MFI so I don't know that the study applies to her.  Nor does it help her now if she's already at trigger shot time.

For TI, if you have no MFI issues then I see no problem doing it every day if you have the energy.   But I agree with following RE's instructions, but if you want what I have normally heard....since the trigger shot makes you ovulate around 36 hours after it a lot of people doing trigger/TI have sex 24 hours after trigger, and 48 hours after.  That way you've had sex on either side of ovulation.  (Similar to people that have back to back IUIs).  If it's a real concern, bring it up with your RE next time if this cycle doesn't work and ask why you're not instructed to have sex 24 hours after trigger.

  • We've never done a medicated TI cycle, but for our medicated IUIs we are instructed to have sex the night of the trigger and the no sex until the IUI.

For the couple of monitored unmedicated cycles, RE would estimate when O would be and encouraged us to have as much sex as we could around that day.
