Update from Intro

I intro'd just a couple of days ago and now, I'm a mommy! I had the Csection right on time on Friday. The delivery staff was great but it was super overwhelming with how many people were involved. DD was born at 10:48am, weighing in at 5 lbs 1oz. I only got to see her briefly before they whisked her away.

However, she's been doing great! I feel like my recovery has been slower than I anticipated but I think it was due to the bed rest prior to the CS. I was becoming desperate because I wasn't able to see her until yesterday evening. Thankfully, DH spent a good deal of time with her and was even able to hold her briefly yesterday. She's been doing so well that she's already been taken a step down from the NICU. She still needs help with breathing of course but her blood work has been clear and they were able to stop antibiotics. BS is good!

I've been pumping religiously with nothing yet but I knew to expect that. I'm super excited because they said we can start kangaroo care this morning. I'm hoping that'll kick start something into gear.

I have a silly question silly because it doesn't matter but DD has been referred to having been born at 33 weeks and at 34 weeks. So, if it was 33 weeks, 5 days, which is it? Are you considered 34 weeks since you are technically IN the 34th week? I'm just confused and like I said, I know it doesn't really matter in the long run.

Re: Update from Intro

  • Congrats and glad to hear she's doing well!  IMO and from what a neo told us you she is till considered 33 weeks whether she is 33w0d or 33w6d.  In the NICU we were at they didn't even really look at the days, every Sunday they would round up the gestational age of every baby regardless of actual days.  For instance, tomorrow your baby will be considered 34 weeks gestational age, but she will still have been born at 33 weeks.  When you get to her EDD you say she is 7 weeks actual/ 0 adjusted.
  • Congratulations on the birth of your little girl. Praying for both of you! Definitely keep us posted on how she does.
