Last Friday when I was on my way home from work, I was stopped at a red light and another driver ran into the back of my car. Neither of us were injured, but I went to the hospital anyway because I wanted to be absolutely sure the baby was fine. They did an ultrasound and it showed nothing of concern. Well, about 1 am Sunday morning, I awoke to a sudden, severe abdominal pain. A few minutes later, I felt something warm gush out. I went to the bathroom and saw blood everywhere. My husband rushed me to the hospital, where they did another ultrasound and performed several tests. The doctor told us that I had severe Placental Abruption, where the placenta detaches from the walls of the uterus. He went on to tell us that this condition puts me at high risk for premature labor, and DS could be stillborn or have serious brain and lung problems. After a short stay in the hospital, I have been put on bedrest until DS arrives, and I am taking a Corticosteroid to hasten lung development in case of emergency delivery. At this point I am feeling so worried and scared that DS will be born too early or that he won't make it. I hate feeling so depressed because I know I need to stay positive, but its hard. I just want DS to be okay.

Please don't 2nd guess any concerns at this time. Get in touch with your OB/Doc if ANYTHING comes up.
I did see an ER doctor and he admitted me to the hospital where I stayed until yesterday, actually. I was very frustrated because they said that there was nothing more they could do and that I could home as long as I had no more bleeding or pain, but this is way too serious to play around with. Well, I called my OB today and she was extremely concerned about my situation. I am going to see her on Monday for a full examination and from there she will decide if hospitalization is needed, which I am fully expecting it will. The whole process has been so disorganized and confusing up to this point and I am already so worried about DS, I wish I could get some straight answers. I have felt alright today, but I'm not taking any chances. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. Knowing I have so much support is a big help.
Abruption a are very serious! Please do your kick counts, stay hydrated and if anything feels "not right" demand that they do something more! Believe it or not if it does get worse, they can get baby out no problem as long as you get there on time. The major concern is you hemorrhaging, the uterine vessels can bleed large volumes very quickly. Not trying to scare you but want you to know its not something to mess with. Prayers and HUGGS!
All this! This is very serious and I am not trying to scare you. Is the hospital you went to a bigger hospital? Does it have a nicu? Did they even call your ob while you were there? I hope everything stays stable until Monday and go to the hospital asap if anything seems abnormal...preferably a different hospital!

I cannot imagine how you feel. Thoughts and prayers going out for you and your LO.
No, it was a smaller hospital with no NICU. The doctor seemed very incompetent, and he didn't call my OB. He didn't give us satisfactory answers to any of our questions. I will be going to a much bigger and better-staffed hospital this time, if I have to. By the way, you guys can't shake me up any more than I already am; I'm just glad that there are ladies on this board that know a few things about this condition. I'm carefully counting kicks and drinking plenty of water. I am fully prepared to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. I'll keep you guys posted.
