Hurt foot :(

So I have been running ever since I have found out I was pregnant. My left foot started hurting, but of course stubborn me kept running. It hurts so bad now that I couldn't run today. I hate not being able to exercise! I feel like I will gain so much weight if I don't. Please tell me it's ok! I am 14 and a half weeks. -Becky

Re: Hurt foot :(

  • If it hurts, don't run.

I just completed my 3rd half marathon last weekend and have been on the sidelines since.  My Achilles seems to be aggravated.  I rested a few days and when I tried to run again it swelled back up.  Sad

I feel your pain.  It feels unnatural to take time off.  I also know that I have a color run with my DD next weekend, so I need to rest up so I can run it with her.  She is looking forward to it so much!!

You need to make sure you rest and try to find other exercises you can do while pregnant. I had to stop running at some point with  my pregnancy too but I was able to work out all throughout even when I couldn't run. Don't get discouraged, just find alternatives. But first give your foot some rest.

  • Is it the top of your foot, near the inside? I had significant pain in my first tri and much like you, kept running until it became too painful. I stopped wearing heels to work and switched to the elliptical for about 3.5 to 4 weeks, then eased back into running. It isn't totally healed, but I can still do 12 to 15 miles a week without aggravating it. I have been resistance training for almost ten years now, so that really helps balance my workouts and maintain my lean body mass. I highly recommend it!! I'm 25 weeks and 4 days now so I'm hoping to keep trucking! It's worth it to cut back or change up your routine so running can still be an option! Good luck!!

*Edit: I only run 2-3 times a week, so the days in between also provide my foot with adequate recovery/rest.

Swimming is my life saver when I can't run. I have a terrible knee and need to take time off every once in awhile and swimming keeps my fitness level up and works a different muscle set to boot!
