IUI #2 was yesterday. This would not have been a big deal, but I had monitoring US Wednesday morning, and the nurse called me back and told me that my RE had fallen and broken her wrist that morning, and would not be able to do our IUI. I essentially freaked out for 30 seconds, while the nurse explained to me that RE had made arrangements with another RE at a major hospital 3 hours away.
OK so, DH and I head out bright and early. I had sent a Facebook message to a college friend who works at that hospital asking if she would be there, but wasn't shocked when I didn't hear back from her by the time we had appointment. So IUI went uneventfully (DH said that the loved the "collection" room. He said it was like a man cave- much better than the public bathroom at our local hospital). And we drove home.
I worked all day today, and I had 2 voice mails when I left. One was from RE, saying that she is recovering from her surgery but that she wanted to make sure that everything went well and that she is thinking about us. She said to call her on her cell and give her an update. I was so touched by her concern.
The other message was from the college friend. She told me that she read my FB message and called my mother for my phone number. My mom apparently told her why we had traveled to her hospital. Her message was so sweet- she told me that she had also been a patient with this RE and that she successfully conceived her son after 4 IUI. She was so kind and so understanding and hearing about our IF struggles reminded her of the pain of her own. I just got off the phone with her after an hour and she has just made me feel so much less alone.
Amazing the way a few kind words can help change someone's entire day. I will have to remember that and look for ways to do the same for others.
