I would only spend 72 if I were certain she would use the backpack for more than a year. I remember in high school my parents bought me the L.L. Bean one with my initials monogrammed on the back (I HAD to have one, all of my friends did (lol) ) but I used it all 4 years of high school, so it was worth the price. Good quality, never fell apart, etc. However, at the age of 6 - I am not sure she'd want to continue to carry it on to 2nd grade... she will probably want a new one next year. I know my daughter is already looking at new ones. I spent 30 on hers for Kindergarten. Luckily, it's leopard print and I like it - so I plan to use her old one for small trips. LOL! (I have a feeling such things will only continue to happen as my girls get older - I'll be getting all the hand-me-downs!!!)
If it's from Pottery Barn Kids, then $50. This can usually get a backpack and the matching lunchbox that clips on to the backpack. You can also get it monogrammed for about $7 more. Seriously good quality, they last for forever and can be washed in the washer machine.
I got one of the Mackenzie small size backpacks and lunchboxes for my niece 2 years ago. She still uses it every day and it looks new... she used it for PreK and Kindergarten.
Re: How much is too much?
Idk? It's been so long since I looked at back pack prices. I want to say around $40?
