I am so putting the cart before the horse. But anyway. If we get pregnant again I will be AMA. How was your pregnancy different as far as tests and medical care. My dr does the maternal 21 test, but that is all I know.
35 by the time you deliver is what they told me. We're doing one of the blood tests with a MFM and then the regular NT scan with my OB. I'm considered high risk because I'm AMA. Ugh. I don't think it will be a big deal, but I'll let you know after I talk to my new OB. I finally got released from my RE this week.
I was AMA with both my kids. No biggie, really. They offer all the same tests but you can decline any or all.
As far as physically, I was 40.5 when I delivered my son. It was a hard pregnancy. I hurt all over. My pubic bone separated and I was in a lot of pain the last 3 months. But that could've happened if I was younger, I suppose.
All that being said, I'm 41 now and I hope to never be pregnant again. I'm too damn old. And tired.
I have two children then last year we decided to add another one and this time I am 36/37. Its been a rough year for us. I don't know if it was really age but we had a miscarriage, a pregnancy that ended at 20 wks due to a severe neural tube defect and now this pregnancy, I am 11 wks. We have been able to conceive easily enough but I have been much more sick this year with each one and unbearably tired. Test wise we are doing all the same we did with my first two. None of my doctors have made a big deal about my age. Best of luck to you.
I was/am AMA with all of them 35,36 and now 40. Back when I had DS, most insurance didn't cover all the genetic testing early on unless you were AMA. It didn't affect us because we declined everything all 3 times anyway
Also, one of the possible effects of being AMA is low birth weight, so you will get a late term "growth" us. I just had mine on Thursday and not shockingly baby was already measuring ahead. I have big babies, birth weight has never been an issue for me.
Oh also starting at around 3637 weeks you will do weekly NSTs.
I think that's it, I am living it right now, so if you have any questions let me know! Good luck :
I was 35 when I had my first and 38 when I had my second. I went to a midwife practice, so they offered referrals to a perinatal specialist if I wanted to go, but I declined. I had NT scans, and both times my numbers were great, so I declined an amnio.
Both of my pregnancies were uncomplicated, labors were short, babies were healthy.
Some of my friends who went to OBs had more monitoring, ultrasounds, and NST's done. It kind of depends on the practice.
I turned 39 in January and am now 5 weeks pregnant. Not sure how different this one will be than my last one since I was "high risk" because I was having twins (at 34 years old). Never had a run-of-the-mill pregnancy!!
My OB treats AMA Moms the same ways as those that aren't... As he put it "35 is the new 25"... It's the same delivering a baby regardless of age for what they watch for and do, the only difference is that you're older and have more life experience in most cases...
As the PP eluded to... I had a lot more energy in my 20's when I was PG than I do now even though at the time I had DS I was a competitive athlete at an almost Elite level (within 100lbs. of lifting an elite total - which I would have had, had I not gotten PG that year)... It just seemed like it sapped a ton of energy right out of me...
I was for both...got pg. with both right away, easy pregnancies and deliveries, no issues with recovery. 2 healthy 9 lb. babies who slept through the night early on and nursed like little champs! Honestly, I feel as though having babies a bit older has kept my husband and me young...and we're so much calmer/established than I imagine we would have been had we been younger! The ERA showed the genetic makeup of a 22-24 year old both times -- so that was nice. No need for amnios, no weekly nsts, nothing. i like whoever said, "35 is the new 25!" Good luck to you. Ithink a lot depends on your ob -- some make a bigger deal out of age than others...mine did not, and I loved that!!!

We were advised to have level II u/s (in 4D) and it was THE COOLEST thing ever. I was 35 and 36 for my 3 pg.
