LeapPad or Innotab? Why?

I'm considering a tablet for DS. He loves my Kindle Fire HD, but I'd rather get something kid-specific.

Which one has a better selection of apps and activities? Which one best grows with the child? Money aside, since they're very close in price.

Re: LeapPad or Innotab? Why?

  • No experience with an InnoTab but my oldest got a LeapPad when he was 3.5 and it took a solid 3-4 months before he was able to use it much.  We started him off with the youngest games we could find and it was still a it difficult for him.  Not sure if the new ones are touch screen but his uses a stylus and that was hard for him to figure out.   At 5, he loves it and uses it whenever we will allow but it is definitely not something I would have gotten a 2 year old.

  • Can't speak for either of those but Vinci Genius is another one to look into.
Amazon has really rugged kid proof cases you can get for the Kindle Fire, and some of the toddler level apps are more suitable for this age group IMO, rather than apps that are going to be a little too challenging still, as the PP mentioned.

  • i bought the innotab for my daughter when she was a few months shy of 3. we got her the youngest games and she had an easy time using it. you can also download some games. the only thing is that now she would rather play on my iPad instead because it offers a wider variety of games. she got a lot of use out of her innotab, but if i had to do it all over i might have just stuck with the ipad.
  • we got DD a Leap Pad for her 2nd birthday because I needed something to keep her in the stroller and she enjoyed pushing the buttons on it at the store, although she had not idea what she was doing.  It's been great.  We don't use it for the games, although it comes with a pet shop one that she likes and she also likes the drawing app.  You can download several tv shows from nickelodean and disney channel, so she keeps busy in the car or the stroller watching the shows on it.  Now that she's older I may try some of the learning games.
