Two Under 2

Sudden changes

I'm in dire need of help/advice.  My 7 week old was a pretty easy baby the first 6 weeks (nursed to sleep, stayed in the RNP for 2-3 hour naps, slight reflux and on Zantac).  All of a sudden, she won't be put down to sleep.  It's been 5-6 days of this.  She never nurses to sleep and when I finally get her down, as soon as I put her in the RNP, she wakes up in no more than 15 minutes.  We talked to her pedi and upped her Zantac, thinking it might be due to that, but no change yet.

Any idea what's going on?

In addition, my DH is going to be gone the majority of the weekend and I am at a loss of how to handle my toddler now that my baby won't let me put her down.  What do you do if you have a needy baby that requires time to get to sleep and you need your toddler quiet to do so?

TIA!

My 2nd had severe reflux (and a host of other issues) and didn't sleep well until 19 months. I feel your pain. My 1st thought was I *think* there's an 8 week growth spurt and maybe she's going through that. Also, I know Zantac takes some time to build up in their system and the response may not be immediate. Or she could require something more than Zantac. My DS was really bad with reflux. He tried Zantac and it didn't work, so we moved to Prilosec and that didn't work, eventually he was on Nexium AND Zantac and that's what worked for him. Your the mama, and you should trust your gut if you think her reflux isn't improving you may need something stronger.

As for the toddler, maybe some TV? My 1st watched a lot of TV in the early months, it's how we survived. Or color wonder markers (so you don't have to worry about the mess) for him to color with. Snacks, food, drinks, anything for LO to snack on. Thats how I kept my toddler quiet.

  • I read the reviews of the rnp and a kot of people said it caused flat head. Maybe its hurting lo to be in it. Check out the reviews with a one on Amazon.
  • Maybe try some baby wearing with a carrier of some sort for your 7 week old so you have hands free to hang out with your older child? Just a possibility.
