Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Baby won't nap anywhere but in my arms!

My LO is almost 12 weeks old. He is such a good baby and started sleeping from 9pm-5am in his crib without any wakeups. Its amazing. Only problem is the daytime sleep. He will only nap for more than 15 minutes if he is being held. If you lay him down in his crib, rock and play, or even bouncy seat he wakes within 15 minutes.

I get some relief by wearing him in my boba carrier but I have a very busy 2.5 year old with me too.

Anyone have any suggestions for naps?

I could have written this word for word, except my older one is 1.5.

I don't have any advice, but definitely can empathize with you!

My only hope is its a stage that he will grow out of. I know DS1 did so fingers crossed that we will survive until then.

I've sent the week googling advice [im a touch desperate] and it seems like a common problem that babies tend to grow out of when they fall into more predictable napping habits.

In the mean time, I'm trying to be consistent and keep putting him down.. Then run around like a mad woman for the 10 minutes it might buy me.

  • Thank you!! I am in the exact same boat. My daughter was a terrible day sleeper until about 6 months but atleast until about 4 months she napped in her swing. None of these contraptions work for him! Haha!

Lets hope they outgrow it soon :)

Haha! I could have written this myself (minus the other kiddo)! :) My LO is10 weeks old and usually STTN (knock on wood), but she has trouble taking naps. I use to get her down for 2 2 hour naps a day in her swing or carseat, but every time I put her down she wakes up. She is a monster when doesn't get a decent nap so I find myself on the coach watching tv while she naps for an hour or more...I can't get anything done. My dr says she's not tried and to do more TT. We do it for at least 15 mins every time she eats, but it doesn't seem to help. Hopefully this will pass for all of us soon!

He loves you and wants to snuggle. Clean dishes are overrated and you don't reeeeally need that nice relaxing shower. These precious days won't last forever. : )
  • No advice but I could have written your post myself. My DD will be 12 weeks old on Sunday and only naps on me during the day. She doesn't STTN yet, she wakes up often but sleeps swaddled in her RnP at nights.
  • Like many others I had the same problem, but I found a solution that actually had helped a lot! I started bouncing him in my arms for about 30 min and he would be in deep sleep and then I put him down. He would nap for at least another 45 min. Day by day, try to bounce for lesser time and he will get the hint! Good luck

Seriously? I have a 2.5 year old too, a shower is not on my list of priorities. Id like him to nap so I can spend time with my daughter.

  • My DD1 was like this and there was not a single thing I could do.  I just had to hold her or have someone else hold her for naps and be thankful that she slept well at night.  Sorry I'm not any help!  DD1 finally started napping in her crib at 7 months.
