California Baby?

I recently purchased California Baby the eczema therapy for my baby.  I used the bodywash for the first time last night and the cream last night and today.  I'm just curious though, has anyone else used California Baby for their children?  I'm new to the brand and just want to know if it works well or not, I know every child is different, but it'd be nice to just get some feedback about the product!  Thanks (:

Re: California Baby?

  • It's highly recommended by my IRL friends and by other moms in here. I am so/so on my opinion of it. I bought the perfume free soap and lotion for DD but it smelled like mildew so I took it back as defective - hopefully it was just a bad batch. The lavender soap is growing on me, as is the lotion. I do really like the calming bubble bath, it's helped to completely turn around some very crabby days for both mama and baby!

  • There's been some controversy around California Baby. They reformulated a lot of their products (without being upfront about it), and aren't as "pure" as they once were. For the cost, I'd probably use something else.

  • I've used the calendula shampoo/body wash and calendula conditioner on DS from the beginning.  Actually when I switched brands of shampoo (I had gotten a few different ones at my shower) he started getting cradle cap, went right back to the calendula and cleared it right up.  My Target sells a California Babies sample tote that has like a dozen different CB items (travel size) to try out different products in their line.  I'm not a fan of their super sensitive everyday lotion as it smells like plastic but it's good in a pinch and that's what you get for super sensitive (no fragrance).

  • We cloth diaper so I bought some of the California Baby diaper rash cream since it doesn't mess up the absorbency.  I have only used it once, when DS got a slight rash from disposables during an out of town trip, and it seemed to work and I liked the smell.

    This.

I used to use it. When they reformulated I switched to a more natural brand. In was using Shea Moisture, now with DSs eczema I use Dr. Bronners.

  • I didn't know about the reformulation, but we've been using the "calming" lavendar wash for years. I bought unscented by mistake once and don't really like it. Random side note-- I am not a huge fan of the regular Burt's Bees scent, even though many people like that.

I like the CA Baby stuff a lot for babies/toddlers, but once DD had longer hair it just didn't cut it for her.  It didn't seem to leave her hair clean enough and definitely it was way too tangly, even with the CA Baby conditioner.  I now use the wash on my baby and on everyone's skin, but I use different kid shampoo and conditioner now for my DS and older DD.

  • I love the brand and the smell. I only use the bubble bath and shampoo though. I have no experience with the lotion (I use Aveeno Baby for that).
