2. It's All Public.
We know you are excited to share all of your news, whether it's on our boards, by posting your blog or via other personal websites, but remember: this is a public forum so make sure you trust those you are giving personal info to.
It is important to also remember that your username will come up in a search engine if typed in - so please, keep in mind anyone can read what you have to say if they have your username.
If you are questioning how much should be shared about something, you are probably better off not posting about it.
It was so ridiculously easy to Google information today. If you are going to have a screen name so similar to your real name, you probably shouldn't have it linked to your personal accounts...like facebook, pinterest, instagram. Also if you don't want news articles posted how about you keep certain key information out of public forums? It really shouldn't be this easy to find personal info just from entering a few key words into google.
So basically if you don't want it shared and discussed, keep your mouth closed. Easy peasy.
Re: One more thing- A PSA
I wish more people understood that. When I was on the tri boards with DS, this one crazy chick was constantly flaming other people. She kept getting banned and coming back under new names until someone finally had enough and googled her. She had given out so much personal info that this other poster found out where she worked and CALLED HER EMPLOYER to tell them that she bumps al day long while at work.
Now, don't get me wrong, the person who googled is as BSC as the crazy chick but if she hadn't posted so much personal info that never would have happened.
And I've seen things like that on more than one board.
If you spend enough time on a message board with the same people day in and day out I think it can be easy to blur the line between reality and the Internet. You get comfortable, over share and the risk is getting burned.
DH won't allow pictures of myself or DS on here or for me to post the city at I live I . He doesn't want anyone to be able to figure out who I am IRL. It's just a good idea to step, back once in awhile and remember that we're all still virtual strangers
