Im not sure if this is aloud. I posted on the potty training board but it doesnt seem to be to active. the last post were a few days ago.
Ignore the rest if this is not allowed!!
Ok so DS is 2 years 2 months old. We have a little potty and have had it for a while. Every once in a while i would let him run around naked while we were home to see what he would do about going on the potty. 99% of the time he peed on the floor.
The last couple of days.. maybe since monday, i let him be naked at home to see what would happen again. The 1st day i sat him on it and he peed. And then later he started peeing while he was playing and i ran him to the potty and he peed in there. then, every time after that he has just stopped whatever he was doing got up, went to the potty and peed! He hasn't peed on the floor since like monday night.
Now i have been putting diapers on him when we leave the house and for naps and bedtime because i wasnt really planning on full on potty training him, i was just going to see what he would do.
I tried to put underwear on him while we were home and he pees in it. Same with a diaper. So if he is wearing something he will just pee in the diaper/undies and not attempt to go to the potty. If hes naked he will go right to the potty.
Im not sure where to go from here. I do have the next 4 days off tho so i was thinking since its a long weekend and there isnt a ton of running around errands to be done i should maybe work on him potty training more.
I dont know. Does it sound like he is ready? How do i get him to realize he needs to pull his underwear down and pee? He clearly gets it if he is stopping whatever he is doing to go over to the potty and pee when hes naked right?
Sorry this is so long and probably confusing. I'm so shocked that he hasn't peed on my floor!! I was not expecting this.
Re: Can i asked a potty training question here?
Its not confusing! We are all going through these same things! I will tell you what worked for me (I have a girl so it may be a little different). I tried the 3 day method and by day two I about pulled my hair out. So I decided she wasn't quite ready. (this happened twice) 6 weeks later I thought well she seems interested when she is bare bottomed so I thought lets try it again. Success. After a few days of accidents and no diapers except for "night night diapers" we haven't turned back. My daycare was totally on board and that helped so much. We used mini M7M's as a reward and often her "abby doll" would have to sit with us when we used the bathroom. Pooping was a little harder but I have refused to go back and forth between diapers/pull ups and undies. She started waking up dry after about 2 weeks of potty training so I stopped using them for nights/naps as well and we have a mess here and there but no more diapers for her, strictly undies, even on car trips we are doing undies and carrying a potty, sometimes she will go outside too :P . Keep your chin up. Give it a whirl again and if not try again in another month.
You are doing great, I liked the naked at home method for a few weeks and then she got to do panties as a big reward!
I think he is absolutely ready - keep going!
I would take the next 4 days and keep him naked whenever possible when you're home. Maybe the last couple days of it, try underwear once a day or so.
Since this has only been going on the last couple of days, he's still used to going in his pants when he has anything on him. Keep him naked now so that he has a longer stretch of the potty being what's 'normal' to him - and then once you put him in underwear, he will hopefully pause and think to go to the potty since he's been doing it for nearly a week. I would stop putting any diapers on him at home.
2 year olds are so much smarter than we give them credit for.

He sounds just like my daughter was. No problems naked but would always pee in the underwear. I think i had to go two weeks straight (maybe 3) of being naked at home until I was able to get her into underwear without peeing in it. I think in her mind she was just in the habit of feeling something on her bottom and assumed it was a diaper she could pee in. I spoke with another parent who had the exact same thing with her daughter - who was also 3.5 when they started potty training.
Funny enough, I've heard the opposite from parents who started around 2 years old...I'm sure each child is different and also at a different point in development from 2 to 3.
Good luck..it sounds like you are doing GREAT!
