? for running Mamas

I went for my first PP run yesterday and while I felt fine during the run, after I had pain in my pelvis & hips (and my leg muscles of course but that's to be expected!) I stretched really well after too. I'm just wondering if this is normal and will go away as I get back into shape or if maybe I'm doing too much too soon? Anyone have experience with this?

  • I experienced pain in my knees instead of my hips. I have never had knee pain before, so I was worried. I think I started doing too much too fast, so I took a week off. The pain went away. Now I'm slowly building myself back up to where I was before I got pregnant. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Yes, exactly this.  It gets better! I've been working out and running for about 7 weeks now and am completely back to normal.  I'd say the pain you're experiencing only lasted a week or maybe two.  Congrats on getting back into it!

  • Yep, sounds like my first two runs. It got better after that.

My doc suggested pre-treating with advil about 30 minutes before a run, once I was cleared for exercise.

Me too!  My knees felt week and wobbly for the first few weeks.  I started running again the day I got the go ahead from the doctor at my 6 week appointment.  I was really worried about my knees.  I took it pretty easy though, starting around 1.5 miles.  Now at 11 weeks, I'm at 3 miles.  I try to go up about a quarter mile ever week (I have a garmin watch so I know how far I'm going).  I'm starting to feel strong again and my knees are no longer a problem.  I have also been doing the 30 day shred on off days.  I think that the jumping rope move, the jumping jacks, squats and lunges have probably helped strengthen my legs too.

Thanks so much for the feedback and reassurance! I'll definitely keep it up. I was thinking about getting the 30 Day Shred on our Amazon streaming thing for off days, but thought it might be too much so I was going to just do Yoga for now... maybe I'll give the Shred a try too though. Thanks again!

  • Sounds like what I experienced after my first PP run.  It works itself out.
