Laundry help!

There are spots on random laundry items, DH's shirt, DS's pants etc....
They are like grease spots or something. Sorta oil maybe? I really have no freaking clue, always in a circle and usually about the same size

DH swears its the detergent, I've switched detergent and fabric softener

What could it be?
TIA

Re: Laundry help!

  • Do you use liquid fabric softener?  It could be that.

Maybe try cleaning out your wash machine.  I use vinegar and baking soda.

  • Sunscreen is often a culprit in our house. It leaves awful greasy stains on whites.

Lip balm or something similar left in someone's pocket?

This and as other pop suggested, clean your washer to rid the culprit.

How old is your machine? Our old washing machine had transmittion seal failure and we ended up having to buy a new washer. I googled laundry transmission seal and got this... https://www.ehow.com/list_6521034_causesgreaselaundrywashingmachine_.html

    Totally use liquid.
How do you clean? Like literally scrub or run a cycle with that stuff ?

Someone told me recently that if you run your laundry through with some pine-sol, it takes all the grease stains out.

I haven't tried it, but they swore on it.

I was also thinking if you use liquid fabric softener, it could be that.

Can I use purple Fabuloso??? MMM, clothes smell good.

  • I swear by pinesol. It can get anything out, plus your house smells good! I bet it's fabric softener on your clothes.

So do you put the pine sol in the fabric softener spot, the bleach spot or just normal in the tub area thing?
  • When I clean my top load washer, I fill it with hot water, add a couple cups of bleach, let it agitate for a couple minutes, turn it off and let it sit. Come back after an hour or so, wipe everything down with the water, run the cycle.

THEN, I do the same thing except replace bleach with vinegar.

Then just run a normal cycle with an extra rinse to rinse it out really well.

I do that every few months, never have grease stains.

  • I would have to look at my pinterest pin to see how I did it but think I put some vinegar in the tub and f/s dispenser, filled with hot water, added some baking soda,  let it agitate then let it sit 30 minutes.  Scrubbed down the tub and the top of the tub.  Spun it out and did another rinse cycle.

And I stopped using the liquid f/s because I was blaming the spots on it.

I just dump it in the bin while the water is going in...
