Blanket in crib

My daughter still sleeps in her bassinet. She is 10 weeks today and soon she will out grow the bassinet. I have not feel comfortable moving her to the crib. She seems floating in it. We use blanket to tuck her securely in the bassinet we feel safe since she is in our room. But the crib is in her bedroom. I don't know the best way to transition her. Anyone use any method to keep their lo from waking up by startle them with kicking. Do you use blanket to secure then or anything else?

I would suggest a sleep sack (especially if your LO isn't a fan of/used to a swaddle). It's similar to a blanket, but it doesn't pose the SID's risk. I would NOT put a blanket in the crib. I honestly wouldn't have it the bassinet, regardless if LO is in your room. It's not as thought you would hear her stop breathing should something happen. But that is just my opinion.

  • I agree with PP.  We use the Halo sleep sack never a blanket.

  • i also recommend the sleep sack- much like a blanket with a backwards zipper.  i got mine 2 for $25 on amazon :) if your baby's used to a blanket, she'll probably like it. gl

  • LO hates to be swaddled/confined and wakes up a couple times a night because she would startle herself.  It took probably a week, but we didn't pick her up right away when she would fuss.  Now when she startles herself she usually goes back to sleep, and doesn't fuss.

I am a light sleeper even dead tired. It's been hard having her in the room. Every little noise would wake me up. It is going to be hard for me not to run to her room every time I hear her over the monitor. How long was the longest you let her cry in her crib? How do you soothe your own mind that she will be ok in her crib all alone?

like the pp, our DS can sometimes soothe himself back to sleep. We will leave him in the crib if he is kicking around, making noises, etc for up to 20 or so minutes if he doesn't seem unhappy. We will let him fuss in his crib for maybe ten minutes. We don't, however, let him cry in his crib. If he is full-on crying, we go to him and soothe him.

Video Monitor. I highly recommend it. It doesn't keep me from running to the room all the time, but it certainly reduces it by about 95 percent!

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • First, I do have LO sleeping under a small blanket because that is what he got used to back in March when it was freezing cold and even heavily dressed AND in a winter sleepsack his body temp dropped into near hypothermic range.....though now the blanket is usually a flannel receiving blanket....and he isnt a mover so heis in the same spot I put him down in when he wakes up.

Regarding moving LO to the crib....I started off putting ds in the crib for naps to get both of us adusted to the idea. I havent moved him there for overnights yet for other reasons, but I am getting more comfortable with the idea of him sleeping in the crib.

Just make sure there is nothing in the crib that could pose a risk.....like a blanket.  Dress your LO in warmer clothes and skip the blanket.
