Introduction

I've been lurking the last couple of days but I might as well intro now because I am sure I will have questions soon enough.

DH and I were expecting our first LO in July but it looks like she'd rather see the world sooner as we have a Csection scheduled for tomorrow morning.

My pregnancy hasn't been without its complications, although, I thought they were pretty mild. At the beginning of 2nd tri, we moved from NJ to Germany for DHs job. I suppose the stress of that didn't help.

At 27 weeks, I was diagnosed with GD. But I've managed to keep it under control with diet and exercise.

At 30 weeks, I developed pain in my inner thighs leading to redness and swelling, which went down my legs. At 31 weeks, I was kept overnight at the hospital because they suspected DVT but ruled it out and prescribed compression stockings.

At that time, it hurt so bad that I would get light headed and my thighs would turn purple. I saw another specialist in lymphatic diseases and he had no clue. The only relief I got was from laying down with my feet elevated. It was a selfprescribed moderate bed rest but that's where I had been for the last 3 weeks.

On Tuesday, at 33 weeks 1 day, my legs became the least of my problems when I started leaking amniotic fluid.

So back to the hospital and they started me on IV antibiotics and IV meds to stop labor. Also, steroid cortisone shots for BGs lungs. They'd allow 48 hours for the cortisone to do its magic, then taper off the meds stopping the labor. Meanwhile, I've been on strict bedrest since we arrived on Tuesday. I can't even sit up.

They said they'd have allowed me to try and deliver naturally except BG is breech, of course!

So, at 33 weeks 5 days, I am really concerned about how much time she will have to spend in the NICU and breast feeding challenges because I really want to EBF.

Anyway, thanks for reading! I'm sure to learn a lot from you ladies as I already have in my 2 days of lurking.

I'm sorry your having to join us. But welcome to our group. I suggest looking at the blog at the top of our boards. Lots of birth stories and hopefully your having some of your questions answers.

My first DD was born at 33w4d at 4lbs 10.5 oz and 18.5 inches long. She spent 13 days in the NICU mainly as a feeder/grower, she had some issues with jaundice. My second DD was born at 34w 5d at 5lbs 5oz and 19 inches long. She was in the NICU for 14 days. She had issues with apena's and brady's, along with gaining weight, learning to eat and jaundice. Obviously each baby is different, but if you haven't already, I would suggest talking your hospital's NICU team.

Praying for you and your LO. Please keep us posted.

Welcome!  My DD was born at 26 weeks and she is awesome at BFing and takes a bottle as well. Every baby is different and no one can predict what's to come! Depending on how your DD is doing, they may let you try right away but you should probably also pump to start building your supply. Like the others said, be patient and work with the LCs there. Also my DD was breech and so I had to have a csection and I do think it delayed my milk a little but it eventually came in and I built up a good supply with the pump until she could keep up with me!

Our Angel Patricia born sleeping 3/30/12 at 31 weeks
Our Fighter Anna born early 1/8/13 at 26 weeks
Hoping to bring home #3 due 9/9/15

Sorry that you have to join us, but welcome!!

NICU times vary for every baby. DS was a 29 weeker and spent two months in the NICU, on the other hand there was another 29 weeker who had been in the feeder/grow room for four months. I also wanted to EBF but living two hours away from the hospital and wanting DS to come home we switched to the bottle. But EBFing is possible. Like PP said get to know your LC.

Wishing you a short and uneventful NICU stay, and a speedy c-section recovery.
