Does your LO wake up around the same time every night? I have been keeping track of when my DD falls asleep for the night and when she wakes up, and I've definitely noticed a pattern. Whether she's in bed by 7 or 9 she pretty much always wakes up around 12. Then she wakes up again at 3ish then 6ish. I tried a dream feed between 10 and 11 but she still woke up around 12.
Is your baby like this? My DD will be 8 weeks old tomorrow and I was hoping she would drop or push back the feeding at 12 by now. Also, I EBF.
Re: MOTN Waking Up
FIrst round of sleep is the best and longest and I don't want to interrupt it. What may happen soon is your LO will sleep through the midnight feed and still wake around 3 and 6.
i ff, and dd goes to bed at 7pm every night. she used to wake at 10pm, 1am, 4am, and 7am... then she started to sleep through the feedings one by one. first she started sleeping through the 10pm feeding. then she only started waking once a night at 2am for a couple weeks. now she is almost sttn, waking once or twice (still around 2am), but seems happy with the paci. we don't have much of a bed time schedule... she just gets changed and fed, then put to sleep in her sleep sack in the cradle in our room, but it happens every night at 7pm, and i think that's what's been helping her with her night time sleep.
an EBF baby will wake up more than an EFF baby. It's just how it is, they digest the breastmilk faster, etc. Here is a sample of my babies evolution of sleep..
birth-4 weeks
bed time 9-10
feed-1/2
feed-4/5
up-7/8
4-6 weeks
bed time-8
feed-11/12
feed-3/4
up-6/7
6-8 weeks
bed time-7/8
feed-3/4 (soommeetimes 2 am but usually something else woke her up, like breaking out of her swaddle)
up-6/7
8-10 weeks
bed time-7/730
up-6/630

she is EFF, and has never had "day/night confusion". Her naps are have never been longer than 3 hours in the day, so she always took her longest sleeps at night. She's also over 13 lbs, and eats anywhere from 20-24 oz in a day. Not a lot, but she continues to thrive on that amount so I stopped stressing.
Your baby may also be habitually waking up. How much is she eating during those times? if it's a full feeding, she's truly hungry. I knew LO was ready t odrop those feedings when she would only take 1-2 oz during them.....so if she's nursing for a short time then falling asleep she may just be waking up to be put back.
We're at five weeks, and LOs waking up is dependent on when she goes to sleep. Usually she goes to bed at 10 with us, and is up at 12:30, then 2:30 then 5ish, and 7. We've been trying the whole dream feed thing, but it doesn't seem to be extending/eliminating her feedings.
I EBF as well. We put DS in his crib around 9. For a long time, he was waking like clockwork at 12:30 am, 4:30 am, and then around 7:30 am for the day.
just recently (within the past week), his first feeding has moved back some. He's now making it until 1 or even 2 am before waking for that first feeding. However, he is still waking up at 4:30 or 5 for a second feeding, and has now been waking for the day around 6:30... So I'm not sure if that's better or worse. I was hoping that as his first feeding moved back, that second feeding would be eliminated, but no such luck thus far.
i don't think there's much you can do aside from making sure that he's eating enough... Our pediatrician recommended making sure that I wake him after eating from one side and offer him the other side as well, and I think that has helped to move back his first feeding some.

I've noticed my LO sleeps a longer stretch if she eats more often throughout the day, not just one late feeding. Her daytime stretches were 3 hours apart during her first month and she'd do two 5 hour stretches over night. Now at 7 weeks she eats every 2.5 hours during the day but she does her last feeding at 7:30/8:00pm and sleeps til 4am, then back to sleep til 7:30am.
I've tried waking her at 10 for a feeding and sometime she wakes up when we're going to bed because she sleeps in our room, but she'll still wake up for that 4am feeding. Oh and I EBF too.
