NTR: Any doctors or nurses here

We just recently decided we are going to try for our second child, but I haven't had a period in God knows how long, Well my ob drew blood to check my hormones and it came back as this one hormone called prolactin being too high. And in this case would mean I'm not producing eggs. Anyone know what would cause this and why? I'm just at a loss right now on what to do.

  • I'm a nurse, but I'm not sure the answer to your question.  I'd post this thread in either the Infertility board or the Trouble TTC board.  I'm sure they would have more experience to answer your question.

Good luck!  Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

  • I'm an OB nurse.  Elevated prolactin levels can be caused by many things such as pregnancy, breastfeeding or breast stimulation, some meds, pituitary tumors, and hypothyroidism.  It will often times cause you to miss periods.  You will need to follow up with your OB, make sure he tests your thyroid as well as this is often times the cause. Good luck.
