RnP to crib transition

A few questions about the RnP to crib transition (I googled it and read way too many horror stories which are making me nervious):

1. At what age did you transition your LO from the RnP to the crib?

2. How did your LO do with the transition (did it take a while)?

3. Did you do naps first, night time first, or both at the same time?

4. Any tips, advice, etc?

DD currently sleeps in the RnP at night while swaddled.  She is usually going about 3 hours a stretch before waking to feed.  I know she isn't ready to STTN, but we'd like to get her in the crib before we get into the bad habit setting age.

Re: RnP to crib transition

  • We use the Rock & Play during the day (no swaddle) and use a bassinet at night (swaddled and flat on her back). We haven't moved her to her crib yet but need to soon. My LO is 8 weeks old, and will be going to a sitter starting at 12 weeks. I'm wondering how she'll do sleeping in a pack & play instead of the rock & play during the day with no swaddle.

How old is your LO? I don't think it matters if you try the crib during a nap or at night, just whichever one your are most comfortable with. As long as she's swaddled, she might do fine!

  • I'm going to start transitioning DD this weekend.  My plan is to start her in her crib at night and when she wakes, I'll bring her back to her RnP for the remainder of the night.  If that's 20 minutes in, then that's what it is.  Hopefully she'll sleep in the crib just fine but I'm not planning on it :)

  • We used RnP up to 5 weeks for everything. Then around 5 weeks we started her in her crib for one nap a day and started a routine. Then we increased how much she slept there during the day. I didn't put her in at night until around 6 or 7 weeks. She now sleeps in there for everything. I recommend starting it when you have time. My LO woke often and had to be comforted back to sleep many times when we first started the transition during the day. After about a week, she did great!

This is us as well. We plan to start Friday night and do the same. DD is 11 weeks old. Good luck to both of us!

  • We started with nights because nighttime sleep patterns develop before nap patterns according to the book I read. DS is7.5 weeks old and we started a week ago. He is in his crib for the first stretch and then sometimes in his bouncy seat after due to reflux. For naps he still naps everywhre...on me, in the bouncy on his tummy where I csn watch him. Naps don't usually start to regulate until around 3 months, so we are just working on night time for now.

Ds is swaddled from the waist down and the mattress is elevated with a pillow.
