Diarrhea? Am I eating too much fruit?

I am on this fruit kick. I love fruit as it is and now being pregnant I love it even more. I have notice the past few days I have had diarrhea. Could it be from the fruit? Could I be eating too much of it? I wanted to get others opinions before I call the doc because I am such a worry wart.

Diarrhea is common during pregnancy. It could be from the fruit or it could just be a normal side effect of pregnancy. While some people are constipated others will have the runs. Don't worry :)

  • It is possible but make sure that you are staying hydrated drinking plenty of water and eating other items that are good for you. Fruit is good but make sure that you are getting protein and vegetables as well. The baby will start pulling the nutrients from your body to get what he/she needs. Make sure you are providing plenty of everything. Cravings for stuff is normal. Enjoy and get your fill but be careful to not over do it.
  • All fruit but bananas gives me diarrhea every time.  I'm 24 weeks, and it hasn't changed.  I have to be careful, b/c I haven't had constipation once.  I love blueberries though!!! :)  Just stay hydrated for sure!
  • It could be anything. I would concerned about diarrhea that has lasted for "the past few days". Whether pregnant or not, you need to find out what's causing that. Call your doctor please.

  • Are you eating pineapple or grapefruit soon after taking your vitamins? If so, both of these fruits clash terribly with medication and vitamins. They have something in them that makes your body flush them out instead of absorb them.

I also love fruit and been getting diarrhea a lot in my pregnancy. I take imodium occasionally to help it doctor says is ok. The worst part is the cramps I get. I think my diarrhea problem is from dairy products been more sensitive lately.
  • Fruits I tend to eat ALOT of are strawberries and grapes. I eat plums, cantaloupe, watermelon. I have also been eating a lot of cucumber salad which soo much sour cream is not good. I have had a few episodes of constipation but it didn't last too long. I think it the diarrhea continues over the next few days I might call the doc to just to make sure. I also thought maybe I am not getting enough fiber, so I thought about increasing that and see if it helps.

Some fruits actually can cause the opposite problem. Just depends on the fruit. But I don't think it would cause diarrhea because of the way the fiber works to cause BMs. I used to only eat fruit and never had an issue.
