Parenting after a Loss

So much for sleeping in

MH works from home and usually gets up between 5 and 5:30 so when DD woke up at 4:45 to eat he told me he'd turn on the monitor down stairs in case she wakes back up so I could get a little more sleep. I decided to turn the monitor in our room down a little so I wouldn't hear every little noise since he told me he'd be listening for her and I went back to sleep. I woke up three hours later to the sound of her frantically screaming and ran to her room. I know she wasn't that upset about being hungry since she had just eating three hours earlier and she wasn't dirty but she was very upset and took quite a while to calm down so I think she was probably crying for quite a while and had only just gotten loud enough for me to wake up with the monitor turned down. I went down stairs and asked mh if he heard her why didn't he go get her or wake me up to get her. His response was that he turned the monitor off because he had to get some work done. Are you KIDDING ME??? You don't tell someone that you will be listening for the baby and than just decide your done and turn off the monitor without telling me that your no longer listening and that I need to be again. Ugh my poor little girl, clearly I won't be trusting mh with her again.

Sorry for the vent but it was either come vent on here or kill MH and I figured this was a better idea.

    I would kill my husband.

But this reminds me of a story my mom loves to retell.  She took me somewhere and my dad was watching my younger sister.  He didn't understand how the baby monitor worked (this was 1983) but assumed he'd hear my sister just fine from the family room in the back of the house, even though her bedroom was all the way upstairs and at the front of the house.  My mom came home to my sister SCREAMING in her crib.  She'd gotten her finger caught/twisted in her hair. My father did not hear her.

  • Wow! And what is it with men that he would need to turn off a monitor in order to do work. Wth it's called multitasking?

Or did I misread and he turned it off after she started crying not before? Boy oh boy I'd be pissed!

No he turned it off before she was crying so he didn't actually know she was crying until I opened her door and it was loud enough for him to hear from his office down stairs.

Haha, well thats better! It cracks me up that a monitor with a sleeping baby would have to be turned off in order to do work. My H would probably say the same thing...he has no multitasking abilities what so ever.
