Baby Names

Peter

Feedback on Peter?

(I think we're down to a final two for our boy names, but as usual I continue to re-evaluate our list. I'm sure we won't decide 100% until we are looking into this kid's face.)

So, Peter. Pete. Petey Pie. What do you think? Go okay with Linus? And most importantly, are penis jokes inevitable for a little boy with this name?

ETA: Peter is not one of the final two names, at least at this point. I don't think I made that very clear in the OP.

Re: Peter

  • My dad is Peter and he is the greatest person I know. Definitely a good pick!
  • I think Peter is one of the most raunchiest sounding names in the world. And yes PeePee jokes will more than likely happen!

  • I don't really like Peter. I like Pete though.
  • I love Peter, and it was on our list for a long time until we decided that we don't like it with out LN.

That being said, I think I like Linus more.

ETA: Nevermind, misread that. Yes, I think Peter goes well with Linus as a sibset.

  • When I think of Peter I think of Family Guy and Peter's chin.. Stick out tongue

I also think of Pete Wentz. I don't think it's a bad name, but its not for me.

  • I adore the name Peter! And I also love that right now it is underused. I do know two little Peters  that are 3 and under, both are Catholic.

I grew up with a Peter and he never got penis teasing jokes at school. I had a huge crush on him.

  • I love the name Peter. It's on our short list (family name). And I think that it pairs nicely with Linus.

  • I don't love it, mostly because of the penis teasing. I feel bad because I think this makes me really immature, but that's what I think of.

  • Not a fan. It may be because I have bad associations with it though. I've known two Peters and they were both sleazy, cheat-on-your-wife types.

This.  I also feel like it is not as special or unique as Linus, it is kind of ordinary.

    I love Peter, nn Pete.
  • My great grandpa was Peter and I love it. SO has vetoed it and I tend to think of the slang connotation for male genitalia.

  • I really like the name Peter and I love the nn Pete :)
  • DH is Peter nn Pete. I just asked him if he ever got teased with penis jokes and he gave me a totally blank look, as if the thought never even occurred to him.

  • I like the name mainly due to association. It's not super common & I like that about it too. As for kids teasing about the name - that could happen with ANY name (obviously some more than others) - I don't think Peter really lends itself to being teased as you mentioned though... If you like it, go for it!

  • I like it. Not a huge fan of Pete, but Peter is nice. I wouldn't think about penis jokes.

It seems much more common than Linus, but the Peter I'm friends with has a very uncommon middle name. His brother has a very uncommon first name, but a very common middle name. So it can work.
