I'm not a fan at all. Calliope is hard to pronounce and I don't like the sound. I know it can be seen as too cutesy and a nickname for a formal first name but I like just Callie.I'm 27 and I went to school and with a girl named that and I always thought it was pretty.
I don't like it very much. I actually had never heard of it until a few months ago when a friend chose it for her DD. I don't think it's ugly - it's just not my style.

It has gotten a lot of love from this board in my experience / from the times I have seen it posted over the years. ::shrugs::
I really like it. It is a guilty pleasure name for me because I couldn't see myself using it (and I don't care for the nn Callie). I think that, like Isla, it is becoming more well known interns of pronunciation. And more well known because of Grey's Anatomy. People still get thrown off by the Greek e = /ee/ at the end of the name. I don't know why. People seem to understand Penelope and Daphne just fine.
I personally love it. Americans are a pretty dumb bunch though, so anything they can't instinctively pronounce freaks them out. I agree that with Penelope getting more popular this might climb a bit too. I tried to convince DH for this baby, but he wasn't on board.

I think Calliope is great. Yeah, some people can't figure out the pronounciation right away, but I don't think its that difficult once they hear it once or twice.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I would only be guessing on the pronunciation but it comes out sounding like Cantaloupe (the fruit) no matter how much I sound it out and even then it sounds like I am tripping over the middle of it. I asked my husband how he would pronounce it and he guessed Ku-lie-oh-pee. Not the worst I have ever seen for my tastes but there will be a lot of spelling it out and then re-spelling it for people. Callie is good: plenty easy to understand and pronounce.
I know how to pronounce it, and while people may not know how to pronounce it right away I think once you hear it once it makes sense and pronunciation is no longer an issue. With that being said, I don't care for the name, I do not like the way it sounds, but I would not side eye anyone who used it.
Never heard of Calliope, I would think it was made up; it kinda reminds me of Cantaloupe , assuming I'm pronouncing it right? I've heard of Callie, and I think that's super cute.
Also, I agree with what mj said...other Greek names, like Penelope, are getting so much love these days, that I don't think the pronunciation will be that big of an issue.
I really like it. I don't think it's out there, cutesy, or hard to pronounce, but I grew up reading Greek mythology and I guess most people don't anymore.

Re: Calliope
thanks for the older post.
seemed a little mixed on opinion. Not as one sided as I seem to remember from the past.
For some reason I dislike Calla. Not sure why
