Parenting after a Loss

It begins! UPDATED

So after reading this article (https://www.troublesometots.com/what-you-need-to-know-about-sleeping-through-the-night-part-3/) about night weaning, I'm going to try nursing DD a little less tonight, focusing on her wake ups between midnight and 7 a.m. If I am lucky, there will only be one. But given how seriously, pathetically little she nursed today, I doubt it.

I am anxious as all get out so if I stalk the board, you will know why.

UPDATED: Last night was not terrible. DD went down for serious around 9, and I panicked because she was mostly asleep instead of mostly awake, which I know is not ideal. She woke up around 11, and I went in to nurse her. I just figured I'd use this feeding as a marker for how long she was spending at the breast, and she's pretty efficient. Three and a half to four minutes on one side, one on the other. She was awake when I put her down this time, and she started to cry something fierce as soon as I left the room. Normally I'd have gone back in and nursed her some more, but I just went and waited with DH., It only took her three minutes to put herself to sleep, though it was heartbreaking to hear her scream (if it had gone on much longer, I would've gone in and just comforted her from her bedside, but wouldn't have picked her up or nursed her again).

Because she'd starved herself pretty much all day, cold turkey was just going to end in screaming. So when she woke at 2, I fed her, but I only offered her one breast. She went back to sleep without a fuss. When she woke at 3:15, I thought for sure we were in for a night of every hour because I wasn't giving her as much as she was used to. Again I only gave her one breast, and I took her off after three minutes. She went back to sleep.

And she woke just now at 8 a.m., and nursed pretty seriously from both sides. I thought she might still be tired so I put her back in her crib awake, but I hear her in their now playing and hooting, so maybe she's ready to be up for the day.

Today the game plan is to stay home and try to get her to nurse as much as possible. I feel like if I can just get more milk in her during the day, she won't need to eat at night (last night I knew she did), and then we can tackle the issues of her waking for comfort, if that's part of it.

Thanks for all of your support, ladies!!!! I can't tell you how much it means to me.

    Good luck tonight!

Thank you! I'm already miserable. I just feel like I've created this problem and ruined DD.

Good luck! Don't blame yourself for the past. You are where you are, and it's time to move forward in the best possible manner for your family.

Oh, and I have a feeling that if you stick with it tonight, she'll nurse like crazy tomorrow, and tomorrow night will be easier. FX

  • Your giving me hope. DS wakes up every 3 hours and lately it's been more "snacking" and back asleep. This makes me think he is doing it out of comfort and being use to it. We are just starting solids but once we get fully into foods I'm definitely going to try.

Every one is different, every baby is different.  No one article or person has all the answers or we would all do it!

Good luck, you are doing an awesome job!
