sttn

How does STTN usually start? Do they slowly start pushing back their wake up time until they don't get up at all or do they just one day go from waking up in the MOTN to STTN?

dd is still eating about 5 oz at 3am so I'm sure she's not going to start sttn anytime soon. Just curious how it goes.

Re: sttn

  • Well DD STTN when she was 12-13 weeks old and hasn't since but even when she did it was 7 hours from about 8 pm - 3 am. She sort of suddenly did it one night and then she suddenly didn't do it again after a week. She usually does maybe 4 hours her first stretch now and is up every 3 hours after that.

  • Basically DS just dropped his midnight feeding and only got up around 4, then at 8 weeks he pushed it to 4 then 5 then 6.  He was sleeping from 8:30pm to 5 or 6 am then back to sleep until 9am for about 6 weeks.  Then we went through a few weeks of wakefuls.  Not sure we are totally out of the woods with it yet but he seems to be back to his longn stretches again.  So to answer your question, he just did it on his own.  I did try a few nights to just give him a soother when he woke, and if he goes back to sleep great, if he's hungry he will wake up

DD just stopped waking up for her feeding one night. She does like a big bottle in the morning to make up for it.

  • With both kids it just... happened.  I don't remember for sure with DS, but I know he just went from waking 1x per night to STTN.  With DD there was like a ~3-4 hr window in which she would wake to eat and one day she just started skipping it and waking at her usual time.

I'm guessing it's probably different for everyone.  Maybe babies who are really consistent with waking at a certain time will start pushing it later?
