At home Inseminations

Anyone ever done a at home insemination? I know it sounds super crazy but I just happened to run across an article about it yesterday and then I googled it and read several success stories. I had my first IUI Jan 24, 2013 and it was successful but it was ectopic. Its been a long struggle, I had a d&c and a few doses of methotrexate and finally last week I got the call I had been dreaming if, my hcg was below 2 and I was back to "normal". They said I am able to try again next month which is great but there were alot of costs involved with this ectopic that I would love to pay off before I pay all that money out again for an IUI. So I was just wondering if anyone had ever done or know someone who has done a at home insemination.

  • Never done it but is sounds not too safe or accurate. I know lot of people do it, but I am not a fan.

I have no experience with them.  From what I have heard is that a true IUI requires washed sperm or else the woman could get a dangerous infection.

This. Seems like the risk of infection would be high. I wouldn't take a chance on that.

  • I know a lady who did it but ended up moving on to IVF eventually. I researched it back when she was doing it and it can be very dangerous so I decided not to do it.

  • I researched this a while back and found out that:

1 - doing home IUI with unwashed sperm is very dangerous, as only the sperm is supposed to go past your cervix, the other seminal fluid is not supposed to be inserted past the cervix.

2 - you could "turkey baster" (excuse the term) it, but that is not any more effective than regular intercourse.

My advice - don't do it.
