Red spot on tongue

Is it possible for a baby to bite their tongue without any teeth? I noticed a little red spot on the tip of his tongue, it looks like when I have bit my tongue. He does suck on his fingers often and chews on everything right now, so I'm not sure if he just bit it or if it could be something else. Dr Google doesn't tell me much.

Re: Red spot on tongue

  • I think my dd sucks her fingers so hard she also got what looked like a hickey on her tongue. It didn't seem to bother her and it went away after a few days.

That's what I was thinking, I did call the pedi and I'm just waiting for them to call back. DS isn't bothered by it and is eating like normal.

  • maybe an inflamed tastebud? I don't know if babies can get those though.

  • Yes!  DD had this a few weeks ago and via Dr. Google I did find out it was possible.  It's also possible for them to get a small bruise from like a paci or some toy.  I freaked out at first when I saw it but since it didn't bother DD I let just linger and asked daycare.  They did tell me she likes to suck on the edge of the swing seat when she's in it.  It went away in a few days.  NBD.
