Speech delayed

I don't post often because of my work schedule, but I need some advice.

My son (now 21 months) had tubes put in about a month ago. I had been told that their child's speech picked right back up within a few weeks. It doesn't seem to be happening with my LO.

Any advice on how to help him get to were he needs to be?  I try reading to him, but mr.independent will only sit still for a few minutes until he takes the book and turns the pages him self.

 Thanks in advance.

Re: Speech delayed

  • I agree with Kimbus. Tell him about everything you're doing. I would also let him hold the book himself and just follow his lead. Focus on the images, try and get him to point at things, ask him "what's that?" even if you know he won't answer. Along the same lines, I would get some of those "seek and find" books and games...

    Good luck!

Has he had a hearing check lately? Your state or county early intervention program might offer free hearing screenings. They could also evaluate him for speech therapy to help determine how delayed his speech is. Have you had a follow up appointment with the ENT? They might also offer a hearing check.

  • He has done his follow up with the ENT and with the Audiologist. They both said everything was fine and that there was no fluid. I think he says about 7 or 8 words right now.
