Crib transitioning

So, my baby is 7 weeks old and we are trying to transition her into her crib. She currently sleeps in her rock n play in her bedroom. Last week we attempted to lay her down in her crib and she lasted on average for 9 minutes on her back! Well, tonight I decided to try again but I was going to lay her on her back next to me on the sofa. I was being lazy and didn't want to keep getting up if she started crying in her bed. I figured if she did well next to me I would move her into her crib! Well, she woke up after 4 min and I have her a little bit of her bottle, without picking her up. She fell back asleep with the bottle in her mouth. Then, she woke up a few minutes later and just looked around for a little while before falling back asleep on her own! I was so proud of her that I went get her daddy to come see! Well, while we were standing there, admiring how well she was doing, she started spitting up and choking on it! I turned her to her side and patted her back, but now we are a nervous wreck to put her in her crib! What if we hadn't been right there??? What would have happened??? She doesn't typically spit up and I am not sure if it happened because she was laying flat on her back? Also, we notice she doesn't relax her legs when she lays flat on her back. She is swaddled when she is sleeping at night, but her legs just sit in the sack of the swaddler... Any advice on calming our nerves or helpful hints on transitioning her to her crib will be greatly appreciated!!!

Did you burp her good after her bottle? Sometimes if DD doesn't burp well after a bottle i lay her flat on her back for a few and try again. I am usually rewarded with a good old "beer belch."

She Probably Needs A Little Wake Up After A Bottle To make Sure She Swallows Whats In Her Mouth. If You Make Aure To Butp Her And Not Just Let Her Sleep With A Bottle In Her Mouth You shouldn't Have This Problem. My kiddo Spit Up A Lot One Night And She Was Fine. It Just Came Out Of Her Mouth Whuch She Turned To The Side.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • We have a pillow under 1 end of the mattress to get it on an incline. And we also keep DS upright for a while after feedings to help get the digestion srarted. If I kat hin pn his back , even for a diaper change right after a feeding there is more spit up. Unfortunately ds is not able to fall asleep nursing and
Go right to h is crib. Which makes the middle if the night feedings much longer than they were with my first :
  • Both my kids ended up being tummy sleepers...  I got an angelcare monitor with my daughter to use to make me feel better when we did it at 2 weeks with her.  My son, we toughed out sleeping on us until I was comfortable with him sleeping on his stomach at 2 months in his bed (he was our first)
  • We've been lazy about transitioning DD to the crib from the RnP but my plan is to start her in the crib for as long as she lasts each night.  If it's a few minutes, then it's a few minutes.  Then I'll just put her down in the RnP, but in her room instead of our's.  Hopefully each night it will get longer and longer that she stays in the crib.

Yep. Us too. I don't think I would get any sleep unless I had the angelcare monitor.

DS2 rarely spits up but one night he did but since he was on his tummy it just basically soaked the sheet.

  • She will be fine in the crib. My LO spits up in his crib sometimes, but his head is always to one side. The worst thing that happens is that it gets on his crib sheet and sometimes in his hair. Back sleeping is perfectly safe.

you should parent your own children as you see fit, but I think it's irresponsible to advise someone else to put a young baby to sleep on its tummy at night. since the  AAP advised parents to put babies to sleep on their backs, cases of SIDS have decreased over 50%. Also, not sure why you would think that it's "safe" at two months as infants are actually at the highest risk for SIDS between 2 and 4 months.
