My pediatrician had me supplement with formula until my milk came in on day 5. Well now my 2 week old will not go to sleep without a bottle. I nurse him for 45 minutes every 2 hours and still have to give him a bottle after. I am now pumping so his bottle is breastmilk instead of formula. So I am pulling double duty.
I think most of it could be resolved if he would take a paci but he sucks on it for a minute or 2 and spits it outs and then cries. Is there a breaking in time for paci's?
Re: How long to get used to pacifier?
My 4.5 month old still has trouble keeping it in her mouth. But I am starting to think she just isn't a paci kid.
Some just don't like them, my FB from day one was attached too hers, but this time around, I find it's just easier to not offer the paci unless I have no other solution, because it just comes flying out every 5 seconds.
We have the opposite problem... After drinking a bottle, DS is really fussy and just wants to suck at my boob even though I know he's had plenty to eat. A paci does help to soothe him but he can't hold it in his mouth yet. I will rock him or hold him and bounce him while helping to hold the paci in his mouth and he will settle down/fall asleep. Also, you can try different brands... Our son likes NUK best, but lots of people swear by MAM and they make a very lightweight newborn pacifier. They also have both silicone and latex to choose from.
