Re: question for poor responders..
It was some years ago, but I believe my AFC was around 8 or 9, with my RE wanting to see at least 10.
I was on a lupron flare protocol with maximum doses of stims. I had seven eggs retrieved, six of which were mature, five of which fertilized, four of which were still growing at day 3. We transferred the best two and of the other two, one was frozen on day 5 and the other had expired.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
I was 31 at the time. My AFC was 4 or 5, I had three eggs retrieved, two were mature, one fertilized with icsi and I now have one daughter (16 mo old).
I don't know if my protocol had a name but I was on really high doses of meds, I had to reorder part way through because they kept upping my dosages. I felt really fortunate that my clinic was willing to go forward with retrieval even though my count was so low. Some will make you cancel or convert to iui. IUI wasn't an option for us because of dh's mfi.
I attempted one IUI with just femera and had two good size follicles but it got canceled because DH spontaneously had zero count... so I don't know if it would have worked. But I'm still curious that I spent $4,000+ dollars on meds for the same number of eggs as $40 pills. I have read that in some cases of dor women don't respond better with higher doses of meds. Just something to consider with your doctor.
Good luck!
