I'm torn between choosing which job I should accept for next year.  I am a High School Academic Counselor.  Here are some pros and cons for both jobs.  Which one seems more appealing?

Job #1 (current job)

 

Pros: Never been laid off, salary is competitive, job duties are not too demanding; can work an 8-4 day easily without taking work home, few demands throughout the year which means I have more time with my LO, school is organized and department is functional, department has cohesiveness, school/district provides more funding for extracurricular activities which means I don't have to fundraise.

 

Cons: temporary employee status (will remain until further notice), my particular caseload is at-risk and underperforming (HS graduation rate is approx 50%)= less career satisfaction, work with some micromanagers who are not my supervisor, highest accountability for work which often translates in more pressure to show results.

 

Job #2 (previous job)

 

Pros: Permanent employee status (which means I have rights to a position if one becomes available in the future), caseload will be college prep= more career satisfaction, higher performing school, huge school campus so no micromanagers and freedom to perform work as it suits me, accountability is fair- not too high and not too low, daughter will be attending this school district when she goes to school and I will have direct contact with her teachers.

 

Cons: Been laid off twice but get rehired a year after I get laid off, salary is slightly less than my current job but still competitive, job duties are more demanding and I may have evening and weekend work sometimes, little or no funding for extracurricular activities which means I have to fundraise, more demands during peak season which means I will have less time with my LO

I vote for job number 1.
Job number two sounds better, but i wouldn't want to worry about being laid off and i like having my time away from work to be with my family as you describe in job 1. Good luck

Thanks for your input! I have a couple weeks to make up my mind and will use every minute as I have no idea which one to chose.
